64 clients. 111 dollars a month. One man doing the work of an entire agency. Amanda heard those numbers yesterday and almost choked. In this episode she breaks down exactly what cheap clients cost you beyond money — your time, your energy, your belief in your own value — and how one pricing decision changes the entire economics of your business. This is the episode your bank account has been waiting for.

I almost choked on my diet coke yesterday. I was catching up with a friend of mine, brilliant guy, genuinely one of the most talented marketers I know. He has been building his business for almost two years, and I just called him out of the blue to check in and see how things were. He said, things are actually going great. I have 64 clients right now. I said, Christoph, that is incredible. What are you charging them? He said, $111 a month. And I said, I'm sorry, what? He says, yeah, $111 a month. And I do everything for them. I rank them number one on Google. I build their websites and I handle all of their marketing. I just put down the phone. Well, not literally, but almost. This man, one person, no team, was managing 64 businesses, ranking every single one of them number one on Google, doing work that agencies charge thousands of dollars a month for for $111. And he thought things were great, minus the 24-hour a day schedule, no sleep, and constant calls from clients. I say, Christoph, that is not great. That is the most expensive mistake a business owner can make. And it has nothing to do with how much his clients are paying him. It has everything to do with what he is paying himself. Because cheap clients do not cost you money, they cost you everything. Welcome back to the Audacity to Create. I am Amanda Contreras, and today we are having the conversation that most business coaches dance around because it makes people uncomfortable. Your clients might be the reason your business is not working. Not your product, not your marketing, and it's not your effort. It's your clients. Specifically the ones you have been afraid to charge what you're actually worth. So let me break down what Christoph's situation actually looked like in real numbers because I need you to feel this. 64 clients at $111 a month. That is $7,104 a month in revenue, before taxes, before any business expenses, before the cost of his time, his tools, his energy, his sanity. And he is doing the work of an entire agency for every single one of them alone. Now let me show you what the same skill looks like repositioned. 10 clients, $1,500 a month, that's $15,000 a month, less than a fifth of the clients, more than double the revenue, and enough bandwidth to actually serve each one at the level they deserve, while also taking care of himself. Or five clients at $3,000 a month. Same mass, better life. The work does not change. The value does not change. The only thing that changes is who he is selling to and what he believes he is worth. So here's what I told him. The farmer's market crowd, the people he has been getting his clients from, those are not his people. The budget conscious, small business owner is not his client. They are not his people. The people who are thrilled to pay $111 because it feels like a deal is not for him. Because it is an incredible deal for them. But for Kristoff, it is a trap. Because here is what cheap clients actually cost you that nobody puts on a spreadsheet. They cost you time. Cheap clients demand more attention per dollar than any other client you will ever have. They email more, they question more, they call you more, they negotiate more, they push back more, they need hand holding, more justification, and more reassurance that the work is worth what they are paying, which was already not enough. They cost you energy. When you are serving 64 people, you cannot serve any of them exceptionally. You are spread so thin that the quality of your work inevitably suffers. And when your quality suffers, you get stressed. And when you get stressed, you resent the work. And when you resent the work, you stop growing. They cost you referrals, cheap clients or for other cheap clients. It is one of the most consistent patterns I have ever seen in business. Your client-based reproduces itself. If you want premium clients, you need premium clients sending them to you. And most expensively, they cost you belief. When you spend every day charging $111 for work that is worth 10 times that, eventually your brain starts to believe that $111 is what the work is worth. You stop being able to see your own value clearly because your pricing has been lying to you for months. Here is what I told Christoph yesterday, and here's what I'm telling you right now. The goal is not more clients. The goal is better clients. There is a version of your business where you work with fewer people, charge significantly more, and deliver at a higher level, and have the time and energy to actually do your best work. That version is not a fantasy, it is a positioning decision. Myron Golden talks about value creation, the idea that income follows the value you bring to the marketplace, but you cannot bring your full value when you are stretched across 64 clients at $111 each. You are too busy surviving to actually perform. Eileen Wilder built her entire methodology around high-ticket offers for exactly this reason. One client at the right price point changes the entire economics of your business. It changes what you can afford to do, who you can afford to hire, and how you can afford to show up. And I want to add something that neither of them says quite this directly. The client who pays you properly respects you differently. I have seen this over and over again. The client who pays $111 questions everything. The client who pays $5,000 trusts your expertise. Not because expensive people are better, but because when someone invests at a high level, they are already bought in. They want the result. They want the process. They do the work. They get the outcome, and they'll tell everyone they know. That is the client you are built to serve. And right now, you might be too busy with the wrong ones to go find them. Christoph and I are building his masterclass this week. We are going to reposition everything: his offer, his pricing, his audience, his messaging. He is not going to be the guy at the farmer's market anymore. He is going to be the guy who walks into a room of business owners who are ready to invest in their growth and shows them exactly what is possible when you have the right marketing brain in your corner. That is what clarity does. That is what the right positioning does. And the transformation starts with one decision. Deciding that your work is worth more than you have ever been charging for it. Because it is. It always has been. You just needed someone to say it out loud. Here's your homework for this episode. I want you to look at your current client list and ask yourself three honest questions. One, which clients drain more energy than they generate in revenue? Number two, what would your business look like if you cut your client count in half and doubled your prices? Number three, what is the story that you have been telling yourself about why you cannot charge more? And is the story actually true? Write those answers down, sit with them, because somewhere in those three questions is the version of your business that actually works for your life. Fewer clients, better relationships, more revenue, more energy, more of you left at the end of the day to do this all over again tomorrow. That is not a dream. That is a decision. Make it.
